Analysis of the novel Love and other things based on Sternberg's love triangle

In the love triangle theory, Sternberg examines the types of stable and unstable romantic relationships of couples. Mustafa Mastour is one of the contemporary romance writers whose love is the focal point of his stories. In the novel "Love and Other Things", Mastur narrates the story of the conflict between love and other things. The purpose of this research is to analyze this novel based on the love triangle theory, which tries to answer this question with a descriptive-analytical method: based on the love triangle theory, what types of love are there in the novel Love and other things, with what elements and characteristics? In this novel, each of the characters express their views on love and other concepts such as wealth, revenge, forgiveness, loyalty, etc., based on their words and dialogues, while reflecting a part of their existence. The four characters advance the main narrative of the story in the form of dialogue by strengthening the conflict and creating suspense, and sometimes with sub-narratives, they provide the conditions for the acceptance of Plot for the audience's mind. The excessive preoccupation of Hani - the main character of the story - makes the situation darker for him. His love for the swallow and the finding of Iskandar and his marriage with the swallow are a crystallization of love and other things in his being that undergo changes throughout the narrative. According to the love triangle theory, the romantic relationships of the characters in this novel are compatible with transcendental love (commitment + intimacy + passion), sad love (passion) and petty love (lacking all three components), romantic love (intimacy + passion) which It can help to better understand the meaning of love and the hidden layers of the text of this narrative and justify the phenomena related to emotional relationships. 1. Introduction Among the various theories that have defined and described love, its types and its components, Sternberg's love triangle theory is more famous in the field of love psychology. Sternberg is among the thinkers who analyzed the nature of its components with a different attitude towards love. Sternberg considers the three dimensions of love to be intimacy, commitment, and passion, and based on this, he proposed the theory of the love triangle. The intimacy dimension shows the warm emotional relationship between the lover and the beloved, and this component refers to the dependence, connection and closeness of feelings in friendly relationships. The dimension of commitment shows commitment and responsibility in a romantic relationship. The dimension of passion, passion and lust looks after the attractiveness and sensuality of the romantic relationship and includes actions such as touching, flirting, hugging, kissing, etc. The presence of these elements - intimacy, commitment and passion - in the romantic relationship of the characters is the reason for the formation of conflict and the creator of the personality characteristics of the lover, the beloved and the rival in the majority of romantic works with a romantic theme. By examining love in the framework of these components, different forms of love are formed according to the combination, strength and weakness of each of these components. Mustafa Mastour is one of the contemporary romance writers who has tried to draw the dimensions and manners of love in his stories and has consistently prioritized diversity and quality in his work. Love is the focal point of his stories, wing after wing of which, female characters have a significant presence, and it is the most representative and modernized of the old love stories. The novel "Love and other things" is the story of love and other things; A character who sees everything in love in contrast to the other three characters who think of something other than love for life. One personality considers money as a priority over love, and another believes that in order to have a comfortable life, love should be thrown in the trash. The story is about an Ahwazi boy who is accepted to Tehran University and stays in Tehran after graduation. According to him, it is for three reasons: good money, great food and beautiful girls. Of course, this character does not eat good food, does not earn a lot of money, and does not go to girls during the story. He rents a room with two people in an old house. He meets a girl named Prasto who is a bank employee and falls in love with her. This novel narrates the adventures and struggles of this love as well as the history of Hani's people around. Another point of the story is tying the main character's life to the Iran-Iraq war; The narrator remembers different stages of his life with the events of Holy Defense. 2. Research methodology In this novel, Mustafa Mastour tries to depict concepts such as revenge, loyalty, holy defense, forgiveness and everyday life in addition to love. This research aims to analyze the types of love in this novel based on the love triangle theory with a descriptive-analytical method and to answer the question that according to the love triangle theory, the characters of the novel "Love and other things" are involved in what kind of love. And what features and components do they have? 3. Discussion Most of the love stories have a clichéd and general form that a man and a woman become interested in each other, and obstacles arise that the climax of the story is the description of these obstacles and how to react to these obstacles and solve them. Therefore, how to talk about love is very important in romance stories. The main plot of this novel is love, and the plot of love is actually the plot of the characters because it is the parties/couples in love who form this plot. There are three stages in the love story of this novel: in the first stage, the lovers find each other and fall deeply in love with each other, but at the end of this stage, obstacles are created for some reason. In the second stage, efforts are made to make this connection happen. At this stage, the focus is on that character - Hani - who makes this effort. In the third stage, the obstacles are removed and the lovers meet. Each of the characters in these novel experiences a type of love that will be discussed below. 4. Conclusion The novel "Love and other things" examines the place and contrast of love in human life with other things from the point of view of several fictional characters and believes that the existence of only one component in love does not bring a person to excellence and balance. In this novel, according to Sternberg's theory, we found three types of love. This narrative depicts characters who consider love superior to other matters in their lives and see everything in love. In contrast to this group of characters, he draws other characters who, in the face of love, consider other things - wealth, revenge, everyday life, world view - superior and reach a stage in life and realize that neither love nor other things alone. They do not help man and his biological reality, and it is only by combining all the elements that one can imagine an almost normal and normal person who can create a normal life for himself. Among the eight types of love, the love between Swallow and Iskandar, before marriage is considered as Sudai love (passion without commitment and intimacy), and the love after marriage between Swallow and Hani, and the love of Musa Nagara for Aqdas is transcendental love (intimacy, commitment, passion and passion). knew Hani's initial love for the swallow before marriage is due to infatuation and infatuation. In this type of love, the dimension of passion (lust) dominates their relationship, and it is a kind of one-sided and sadistic love that Hani has towards the swallow. With great courage, Hani reveals his love for the swallow and believes that, without the murder incident, he will lose an opportunity that cannot be compensated, and with this bold action, he brings the narrative to the climax, that this instability of Hani's character is a sign of his true love. Is. Swallow, by breaking the promise of love, does not take care of Hani's personality. The mistress leaves the lover and persecutes him and causes the lover's personality to undergo a mental crisis. Hani goes crazy for not reaching the swallow. Iskanderkhatti respects the character of Prasto and Hani and does not complain about Hani out of respect for Prasto. After breaking away from Iskandar, Prasto respects Hani's character and marries her, and the story ends with a happy ending. According to Muradsarmeh and Karimjojo, love is of a kind that lacks all three components of the love triangle. 5. References Ahmadi Khorasani, N.
